Is High End Makeup REALLY Worth It?

A question I've been asking myself a lot lately, is whether high end make up is really worth it? The high street brands have really upped their game recently, with holy grail status foundations from Bourjois, an incredible concealer for just £4.19 and YSL "dupes" from Rimmel. But who can deny the love of the luxurious packaging you get from Estee Lauder and the buzz you get handing over £30 for a foundation we all dream of owning? I know I can't.

When it comes to foundation, I really believe you get what you pay for. Not only do I find the quality much better, the whole experience is tailor-made to your needs and wants and you're able to sample the products to ensure you aren't wasting your money. There are many more shades available which you will get matched too, meaning you won't be stood in front of a L'Oreal stand for 20 minutes, with security on your back, trying to find your "True Match". However with Maybelline's recent Fit Me range, they've giving the public the ability to try and find the perfect shade with the help required.

I find it difficult to fork out £20 for a mascara when I think the quality of high street ones are amazing these days. I often find myself reaching for my tube of Rimmel and L'Oreal mascaras rather than my Benefit and Estee Lauder tubes because I think they do an equal, if not better job.
We have recently seen brands such as Dainty Doll and Essie being sold online for a fraction of the price which really makes me question how they can sell a product for £1.99 when it retails at £8 or more? Where is our money REALLY going?

To be honest, I don't think I'll ever stop shopping for high end products, some may think it's a waste of money but I just feel I have much more trust in the product and brand. But I'll never stop buying high street items either. It really is just a case of try, try and try again until you find the product perfect for you.

I have a giveaway running where you can find a mix of high end and high street, so check that out!

  1. Ahh, I think there is just that pleasure of having high end brands that appeals to most. I never used to be able to afford them, and as soon as I could I couldn't stop purchasing more high end stuff. But you're right about high street brands upping up their game, I'm quite happy with a mix of the both really! It's just nice to have the nice packaging staring at you from your dressing table hehe. xxx

  2. I agree with you about foundation, it's the only makeup I'm willing to pay more for! Mascaras etc I will always stick with high street x

  3. I love my Chanel foundations and wouldn't put my trust in a high street brand (as yet) to give me what i want for my skin, although i do wear high street foundation for work so i don't waste my special stuff :) AS for mascara i can't fault Rimmel and other HS brands! My Estee Lauder and Benefit mascara's don't do nearly as good a job as them! I think i have an equal balance between the two :)

  4. I love my benefit mascara but if it were discontinued or something I would rush out to buy only high end again because drugstore mascaras today are incredible! x

  6. I feel like I use a good mix of products. I love my MAC foundation but top it with ELF hd powder. Same with my Dior mascara that I layer with L'oreal million lashes. I'm more concerned with what works for me & my face =) xx

  7. I find with high end products you are paying more for the name, and packaging rather than the product. I find you can get just as good quality within the high street, but having said that sometimes is nice to buy and use something that has a touch of luxury about it :)

  8. "meaning you won't be stood in front of a Revlon stand for 20 minutes, with security on your back, trying to find your "True Match"" ---haha, you are so right. This has happened to me more than a few times & I hate it. I just want to straight up tell them that NO I am not stealing. But I guess it does look sketchy.

  9. I've never used a high end foundation, but from what I've heard and read I agree with you. At least when it comes to foundation high end seems much better for getting your perfect match (without being stalked by security guards and irritated store assistants).

But I was so shocked afew weeks back when I just happened to pick up some Miss Sporty nail varnish that was on offer & I have never found a nail varnish that lasts as long that doesn't chip!
